Madhu-Kaitabh Purana, the ascendent of the Asuras, is a famous demon. They originated from the dirt or sweat of Vishnu's ears while sleeping till Kalpanta or from Rajoguna and Tamoguna respectively.
How madhu kaitabh killed
It is a matter of ancient times. There was water all around, only Lord Vishnu was sleeping on the bed of Sheshnag. Two mighty demons named Madhu and Kaitabh were born from the filth of his ear. They began to think that what is the reason for our origin? Katabh said- 'Brother Madhu! Bhagwati Devi is such a great power that keeps our energy in this water, there is great power in mother.
He created this burning object. She is the cause of our creation, the Supreme Aradhya Shakti. Just then, the beautiful 'Wagbees' reverberating in the sky was heard. Both of them thought that this is the great mantra of Bhagwati. Now they started meditating and chanting a similar mantra. By giving up food and water, he did very hard penance for a thousand years. Bhagwati Mahashakti became pleased with them. At last there was a voice from Akash - Demons! I am pleased with your penance. Ask for a boon!'

Hearing the voice of the sky, Madhu and Kaitabh said - 'Goddess who keeps a beautiful fast! Please grant us the boon that only we can die of our own free will. Mother said it is okay, no god or demon can kill both of you brothers.' Madhu and Kaitabh were very proud of the boon given to the goddess. They started playing with aquatic creatures in the sea. One day suddenly his eyes fell on Prajapati Brahma. Lord Brahma was seated on the lotus seat.
Those demons said to Brahma ji - 'Suvrat! You fight with us If you do not want to fight, then leave this moment, because if you do not have the strength, then you have no right to sit on this perfect seat.' Hearing about Madhu and Kaitabh, Brahma ji was very worried. His whole time was spent in penance. Fighting was against his nature. Being frightened, they went to the shelter of Lord Vishnu. At that time Lord Vishnu was immersed in Yoga Nidra.
Even after lakhs of efforts of Brahma ji, his sleep did not break. In the end, while praising Bhagwati Yoga Nidra, he said- 'Bhagwati! Fearing the fear of Madhu and Kaitabha, I have come under your shelter. Lord Vishnu is stunned by your confusion. You are the mother of the whole world. Fulfilling all people's desires is your nature. Help me or else I will die at the hands of demons. So mother, wake up Lord Vishnu and speak to protect me.
Hearing the prayer of Brahma ji, Bhagwati Mata emerged from the eyes, mouth, nose, arms and heart of Lord Vishnu and became situated in the sky and the Lord got up and sat down. After that he had a fierce battle with Madhu and Kaitabh for five thousand years, yet he failed to defeat them. On considering, the Lord came to know that both these demons were given the boon of euthanasia by Bhagwati. It is not possible to kill them without the grace of Bhagwati, only then did they have the vision of Bhagwati Yoganidra.
The Lord praised Bhagwati in mystical words. Bhagwati was pleased and said -You are the king of the gods, and I will cast the demons into illusion, and you will kill them.'' Understanding the meaning of Bhagwati, the Lord told the demons that I am extremely happy with the battle between you two. So ask me for a boon.
The demons were fascinated by the illusion of Bhagwati. He said- 'Vishno! We are not the beggars, we are the givers. Pray from us whatever you want. We are ready to give. God said - 'If you want to give, then accept death with my hands. Seeing the infinite water all around, the asuras said, "Okay, you can kill us where there is a dry place." On this Lord Vishnu put Madhu-Kaitabha on his thigh and cut off their head with a wheel.
